I just couldn’t resist making at least one web page about Art Deco lamps because they’re just so much fun! There’s something great about these lamps that is sometimes hard to even describe; part art, part lamp, part whimsy, part fun… you just can’t beat an Art Deco lamp. I know you agree with me because you’re here! I originally built this website as a touch lamp website, but well – Art Deco deserves its place too.

On this page I’m going to discuss Art Deco lamps in fairly great detail. I’m going to talk a little bit about their history and different kinds you can expect to find; and I’m also going to spend a good amount of time on prices; what you expect to pay, and where you can expect to find the best deals.

First a little history lesson: I don’t know about you but when I think Art Deco the 1920s and 1930s immediately spring to mind. Images of nude female figurines lounging in different ways wrapped around globes and other objects of alabaster or maybe marble or some other material that you might not necessarily think of when you think of lamps. For some reason the Moulin Rouge comes to mind, how about you? In fact the Art Deco movement began around 1900 and ended right around 1930. Of course it hasn’t really ended because you can still buy pieces that they’re making today. That time frame was when the most prolific of it happened.

What killed the movement? Well if you can believe it, it was the Great Depression! When people lost all their money when the stock market crashed, they suddenly couldn’t spend the huge sums needed to purchase these things anymore. When you have to choose between food and a lamp, you choose food, I guess! Then the second world war rolled around and, well, the movement just never came back.

Some Terms You might Run Across: spend much time looking for these lamps and you’re going to run across several different terms such as faux, Mandarin Ivory, Dore, nouveau, retro, patina, polychrome, solid bronze, white metal, plinth, chryselephantine and others. They’re not particularly important, but if you are curious you may want to look up the definition of some of them! I thought I might define them here but then I realized that I didn’t really want to!

How About Prices? Enough about history and terms, let’s get down to prices! There is a difference between two different categories of lamps that we need to discuss first. On one hand there are knockoffs. These reproductions are quite nice but they’re not the original lamps. You can find them anywhere from $50 to $150 just about anywhere. On the other hand, you have originals that were produced during the 1920s and 1930s. They cost much more money, much much more. Depending on the lamp you might pay $300 to $1,000 or more for a single piece.

There is a third category that I’m hesitant to discuss but is something you may want to look into. It’s what I call nicer knockoffs. These are produced by reputable companies using modern techniques and the price range for this category usually tends to fit in the hundred and $150-$400 range depending on how large the lamp is and how intricate its design may be.

Finding the right Art Deco lamp to fit your personality and your decor can almost be as fun as having it in your home. The search can be exciting and even exhilarating. Luckily the Internet has become a fantastic tool for searching out Art Deco lamps, and that’s where I advise you to look first before hitting department stores or antique stores.

Sometimes a lamp is just a lamp… but sometimes it’s a crystal table lamp! There is something almost indescribably elegant about crystal table lamps. I don’t know what it is but it makes you feel like you’re sitting in a palace somewhere, and that you might just be nobility yourself.

Sure, this may be over the top… but that’s the way I feel when I look into a beautiful crystal table lamp. You could stick any old lamps throughout the rooms in your home, or you can choose to live life a little better, a little less ordinary, and if you are that sort of person then we have something in common and you have come to the right place!

Picking the right Crystal Table Lamp for you: Picking the right lamp is an important sense of style that is different for each of us. What might be right for me and my home is probably not right for you and yours. That doesn’t mean there’s anything wrong with me or you or anyone else, it’s just that we have different tastes and that’s just fine. In fact, that’s one of the great things about choosing your own lamps, you get to put your own stamp of individuality on your home. That’s why we’re here!

Prices prices, who knows prices? I might as well start with the bad news, but I’m sure you already know it. These things are incredibly expensive… I mean incredibly incredibly expensive! I’ve never seen one less than $40-$45, ever, unless it was a yard sale or an antique store where the person didn’t realized what they were selling. And by the way, let me just say right off the bat that yard sales and antique stores and also estate sales are fantastically wonderful places for you to find crystal table lamps of all different stripes. Yes you must put in a little more effort and a little more leg time, but your efforts can be very well rewarded in the end.

Low end prices: like I said I’ve never seen a crystal table lamp less than $40 ish. You can find them for $50 though, and there are very nice comparatively speaking. For instance, the Simply Shabby Chic crystal candlestick table lamp – tall, is a very interesting lamp and quite beautiful to look at. At around $45 you can’t beat the price! It has a steel candlestick base and is made up of silver and clear acrylic materials. I’m not entirely sure I’d call this crystal, maybe more like crystal accented but still for the price you can’t go wrong.

Mid Range Prices from there you jump up to around the hundred dollar range, at which point your options increase quite a bit. Take for instance the Brentwood cut crystal urn with bell shade table lamp from Universal lighting and decor. This lamp is fitted out with brass finish and is made of cut crystal. It’s a very nice midrange lamp and indicative of what you can expect in this price range. You can find some very nice crystal table lamps in the $100-$200 range… with the normal price point at $149, and $179.

Higher range prices, the norm: but if you really want to get into crystal table lamps you’re going to have to spend some real money. After the low to mid range as I described above prices skyrocket immediately up into the several hundred dollars range. You’re just going to have to shell out some money for the really nice models, sometimes as much is $500 or more.

Because these lamps really can cost so much money… I always recommend that you check out estate sales, antique stores, and even yard sales for the absolute best prices for some of the best lamps you can expect to find anywhere.

Floor lamps are great, they added something special to just about any room that you put them in. Not only do they look great, but the light that they throw off can totally change the way your room looks and feels in an infinite number of ways…

The only problem is, they are freaking expensive! I’d love to put two or three in every room but I just can’t afford it, I don’t know about you, but I don’t have that kind of money to throw around on lamps! Then I found out that today you can find pretty cheap floor lamps if you just do a little bit of research and put in a little bit of time and that’s what I’m going to talk about on this page today. So if you’re looking for cheap floor lamps, you have come to the right place.

How much are Cheap Floor Lamps? so let’s just get right into it and talk about prices. How much can you expect to pay for a really cheap model yet at the same time get something that doesn’t look bad and will last as long as possible? And I say that we want something that doesn’t look bad, but of course we really want something that looks good! I guess the question becomes, can you get a good-looking floor lamp without paying an arm and a leg?

The answer is yes! Before we get into the discount models, let’s talk about baselines. What can you expect to pay for a sort of top-of-the-line sturdy good dependable high-quality brand-name floor lamp? Well the top-of-the-line is really around $200 and up. Realistically, you can expect to pay around $300-$400 for a really nice floor lamp, and maybe a little more for a sweeping arc floor lamp just because they contain more material, for lack of a better word.

Mid-Range Prices: if $200-$400 a sort of the top of the range, then I guess you’d have to call $100-$200 the sort of midrange. You can get some really nice lamps in this $100 to $200 price range. And there really is a lot of different options in this price range. You can find lamps for $100, even $120, that are really nice; likewise you can find a good selection in the $149 to $189 range.

Cheap Floor Lamps: but that’s all just background information… we want the cheap floor lamps! How much can you expect to pay for one of them? This is going to sound like a cop out, but basically the price range runs from around $15 up to around $100. You can find a very nice selection under $25. In fact I found almost 50 really nice cheap floor lamps for under $25 with just a minute or two of searching. I found 100 lamps between $25 and $50 online, and I found almost 500 lamps priced between $50 and $100.

So cheap floor lamps are available and they look darn good. At this price you can afford to have one or two or even three in every room.

Some of the most popular lamps today are the arc floor lamps. But there is some confusion of what exactly constitutes an arc floor lamp and what is merely just a lamp. Basically a lamp is just something that is straight, that’s to say, it sticks straight up. And arc floor lamp on the other hand, contains (or is made up of) a wide sweeping arc that is completely distinctive.

They come in all shapes and sizes, from ultra modern to traditional and just about everything in between and price ranges vary widely as well. And this web page I’m going to discuss some different styles as well as bring you through a list of price ranges so you know exactly what you can expect to pay and so that you don’t overpay which is very important indeed!

The first lamp that I would like to talk about today is the modern arc style satin steel floor lamp with marble base. The reason that I am singling out this particular model (which is manufactured by Visiondecor Furniture by the way) is because it represents a fairly consistent swath of modern styles which gives you a pretty good example of what the genre has to offer.

The specific lamp cost around $170 and is 66 inches long by 16 inches wide and 87 inches high. One word comes to mind when I think of this model and that word is “sleek”. It feels modern in every sense of the word. Yes it has a marble base, but I wouldn’t have known that unless I was told because it doesn’t seem like marble at least not in my mind. When I hear marble I think traditional, and this lamp is anything but! The arc of this lamp is sweeping and long which allows you to place the lamp anywhere and it will reach where you need it to reach.

The Next Arc Lamp that I want to discuss is the Adesso Luna a collection, lunar arc lamp with satin steel finish item number254334622FL-P. This lamp would also be described as ultramodern but of a slightly different sort as the lamp mentioned above. This lamp seems more of an art piece and that’s really the other end of the spectrum when it comes to modern arc lamps… artsy. This lamp has five bulbs, each at the end of their own sweeping arc which gives the impression of a swaying tree with several branches possibly. It is comparably priced at around $350 which is a pretty good price for such a beautiful lamp. The bulbs are housed in white milk glass shades, and each arc adjusts horizontally which makes this lamp incredibly functional as well as beautiful.

What price should you expect to pay? prices for arc floor lamps range quite broadly. You can expect to pay more for one of these kinds of lamps then you would a normal lamp simply because these lamps are much larger, they are made up of more material and for that reason alone they are going to cost more. But not just that, since they’re bigger and sort of sweeping in nature, they have the look of pieces of art to them. Any time something looks artsy, you can expect to pay more for it and these are no exception. You can find incredibly cheap lamps and the $79-$89 range. But expect, more realistically, to pay anywhere from $150 up to $1,000 depending on the name brand that you’re interested in.

Touch lamps can add a “touch” of elegance and sophistication to any room of your house. Okay that was a little corny but I just couldn’t resist! The fact of the matter is, any lamp can add a touch of elegance and sophistication to any room of your house; the reason we like touch lamps is because they’re fun!

And that’s why I built this website, to help you find the best deal on the right touch lamp for every room in your house. I’ve searched all over the Internet for great deals tailored specifically for you. But this website isn’t just about finding deals, it’s also about finding information. I reviewed some of the major brands of touch lamps and even added a little information about how they work in case you’ve ever been curious… I know I was!

So how exactly do these things work? We should probably get this out of the way before anything else. There are several ways that a touch lamp could work, but the way they actually work may surprise you. Let’s get the possibilities out of the way first. It’s possible for a touch lamp to work based on human body temperature, as well as pressure, and also radio waves (yes the human body is actually a pretty good antenna when it comes right down to it).

But none of these ways are as efficient as the actual method used to operate these lamps… which is capacitance. Basically the human body has a high “capacity” to hold electrons. The lamp has a certain capacity to hold electrons too; just like your hand. When you touch the lamp the capacity of the two increases (both your hand and the lamp), and the lamp detects this increased capacity and adjusts accordingly. It’s a little weird and it might not make a lot of sense but well, there you go.

Why use a touch lamp? you might think the answer to this is obvious but it’s not. Yes they’re a lot of fun to use, and there even a little fun to play with… but that’s not the main reason to own a touch lamp. For one thing, lamps with regular switches break quite easily. It seems like I used to always have to run to the hardware store and get a new switch every few months. Sure, they only cost a couple of bucks… but it’s a pain in the backside to have to replace these things every few months.

You see, regular switches get gunked up over time. Bits of dirt, dust, and whatever else get lodged in there and the switch breaks. This doesn’t happen with touch lamps which is one of the main benefits in my mind to owning them.

Price Ranges before we get into specific details and specific brand reviews I want to take a few minutes quickly here to discuss price ranges because that is going to be one of the more important factors right after your personal preference for certain designs. You can expect to find touch lamps over a broad range of prices which is good because that means you can find one for any specific budget.

Low-end models tend to start below $25. Most models however will range between $25 and $50. There are some models that will cost you between $50 and $100… and a few very high-end models that will cost between $100-$200 or more. But generally speaking the majority of models will run you between $25 and $50.

Check out my site for special deals, or browse around my pages for more general information and reviews.
