Touch Lamp

Touch lamps can add a “touch” of elegance and sophistication to any room of your house. Okay that was a little corny but I just couldn’t resist! The fact of the matter is, any lamp can add a touch of elegance and sophistication to any room of your house; the reason we like touch lamps is because they’re fun!

And that’s why I built this website, to help you find the best deal on the right touch lamp for every room in your house. I’ve searched all over the Internet for great deals tailored specifically for you. But this website isn’t just about finding deals, it’s also about finding information. I reviewed some of the major brands of touch lamps and even added a little information about how they work in case you’ve ever been curious… I know I was!

So how exactly do these things work? We should probably get this out of the way before anything else. There are several ways that a touch lamp could work, but the way they actually work may surprise you. Let’s get the possibilities out of the way first. It’s possible for a touch lamp to work based on human body temperature, as well as pressure, and also radio waves (yes the human body is actually a pretty good antenna when it comes right down to it).

But none of these ways are as efficient as the actual method used to operate these lamps… which is capacitance. Basically the human body has a high “capacity” to hold electrons. The lamp has a certain capacity to hold electrons too; just like your hand. When you touch the lamp the capacity of the two increases (both your hand and the lamp), and the lamp detects this increased capacity and adjusts accordingly. It’s a little weird and it might not make a lot of sense but well, there you go.

Why use a touch lamp? you might think the answer to this is obvious but it’s not. Yes they’re a lot of fun to use, and there even a little fun to play with… but that’s not the main reason to own a touch lamp. For one thing, lamps with regular switches break quite easily. It seems like I used to always have to run to the hardware store and get a new switch every few months. Sure, they only cost a couple of bucks… but it’s a pain in the backside to have to replace these things every few months.

You see, regular switches get gunked up over time. Bits of dirt, dust, and whatever else get lodged in there and the switch breaks. This doesn’t happen with touch lamps which is one of the main benefits in my mind to owning them.

Price Ranges before we get into specific details and specific brand reviews I want to take a few minutes quickly here to discuss price ranges because that is going to be one of the more important factors right after your personal preference for certain designs. You can expect to find touch lamps over a broad range of prices which is good because that means you can find one for any specific budget.

Low-end models tend to start below $25. Most models however will range between $25 and $50. There are some models that will cost you between $50 and $100… and a few very high-end models that will cost between $100-$200 or more. But generally speaking the majority of models will run you between $25 and $50.
